Safety is a critical component of Argonne’s scientific and engineering technology mission. As part of its oversight and partnership with the laboratory, the University of Chicago strives to help the laboratory achieve excellence in both safety and mission performance.
Throughout its management tenure, the University of Chicago has emphasized personnel safety and the protection of the environment in its efforts to consistently improve the workplace.
Joint Task Force Initiative: Improving Operational Excellence
In fall 2018, the University of Chicago established a Joint Task Force Initiative (JTFI), which brings University relationships, talent and resources to bear in helping Argonne achieve mission success.
The goal of the JTFI is to make UChicago’s stewardship more proactive versus reactive; find better ways to identify and mitigate issues in advance and move away from crisis management.
The JTFI works to identify common mission support challenges and strategic risks and finds ways to mitigate these challenges/risks and drive efficiency through collaboration and cross-institutional engagement and partnerships.
It also provides an organizational structure where greater ongoing engagement produces new program opportunities, provides solutions to existing challenges and identifies new issues before they escalate.
