Each year the Argonne Board of Governors recognizes the lab’s top performers with more than $40,000 in awards for distinguished performance, outstanding service, education, and safety achievements.
The annual awards include:
- Distinguished Performance Awards, which are presented to employees with a specific outstanding achievement or a distinguished record of such achievements in the areas of basic and applied science and engineering
- Outstanding Service Awards, given to Argonne employees with exemplary service over an extended period who have significantly contributed toward helping the laboratory fulfill its various missions and attain its overall goals
- Director's Award for Outstanding Safety Leadership, which recognizes laboratory leaders who, in an exceptional and exemplary way, embody the principles of integrated safety management, contribute to a positive safety culture, demonstrate a commitment to excellence in workplace safety, and successfully address critical challenges and vulnerabilities in safety
- James B. Porter Jr. Team Award for Outstanding Safety Performance, given to a team of laboratory employees who embody the principles of integrated safety management and directly contribute to the creation and sustenance of a positive safety culture and a commitment to excellence in workplace safety
- Excellence in Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility Award, that recognizes leadership of diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility efforts by inspiring others and creating a demonstrative effect in areas such as, catalyzing a shift in mindsets, building skills for bridging differences and changing behaviors, and fostering longer-term culture change efforts within the lab
- Pinnacle of Education Award, that recognizes employees for exceptional contributions and continuous efforts that help to make science education and outreach inspiring and unique for students, teachers, and community groups
