Jack Anderson, Jr.

Jack Anderson was named interim Vice President of National Laboratories at The University of Chicago in September of 2024. 

Jack has served the Department of Energy for over 30 years at four Department of Energy Office of Science Laboratories (Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory, Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory, and Brookhaven National Laboratory).  During his tenure, he has been responsible for leading organizations responsible for all aspects of mission enabling functions ranging from Environment Safety and Health to Facilities Management to Business Services. His experience also includes 12 years as a Chief Operating Officer (Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory and Brookhaven National Laboratory) and appointment as Interim Laboratory Director at Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory and Brookhaven National Laboratory. 

Prior to joining the National Laboratory system, Jack worked in the private sector with General Dynamics on the construction of nuclear submarines, and with two utility companies responsible for the construction and operation of nuclear power plants in Ohio and Florida.

Jack holds a B.S. in Industrial Engineering and a B.A. in Economics from Rutgers University, an M.B.A. from Rider University, and has completed extensive doctoral program studies in Public Policy at the Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy at Rutgers University.

Jack has engaged with the national laboratories by serving on advisory Committees for Los Alamos National Laboratory, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory as well as several private sector entities. He has previously served as Chair of the National Laboratory COO Working Group and is a former member of the DOE National Laboratory Operations Board.

He and his wife June reside in Westminster, Maryland near their two sons, their wives and four grandchildren.
